Rubbish Sony batteries catch on fire

Poor old Dell is having to recall just about every laptop battery it's made in the last two years thanks to rubbish Sony not knowing how to make batteries properly.

"Dell has identified a potential issue associated with certain batteries sold with Dell Latitude, Inspiron, XPS and Dell Precision Mobile Workstation notebook computers. In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and other regulatory agencies, Dell is voluntarily recalling certain Dell-branded batteries with cells manufactured by Sony and offering free replacements for these batteries. Under rare conditions, it is possible for these batteries to overheat, which could POSE A RISK OF FIRE."

(We added the bold and capitals there, as an additional safety measure to you, our important readers).

THE ENTIRE DELL RANGE THAT'S AFFECTED:
* Latitude: D410, D500, D505, D510, D520, D600, D610, D620, D800, D810
* Inspiron: 500M, 510M, 600M, 700M, 710M, 6000, 6400, 8500, 8600, 9100, 9200, 9300, 9400, E1505, E1705
* Precision: M20, M60, M70, M90
* XPS: XPS, XPS Gen2, XPS M170, XPS M1710

ASSOCIATE 'SONY' WITH 'HOUSEHOLD FIRE'
Batteries have existed for over 100 years and everyone knows how to make them properly so they don't catch on fire. Apart from Sony, whose batteries CATCH ON FIRE. So don't buy anything made by Sony, in case it catches ON FIRE, killing you, your loved ones, and even your pets.

One of these pyro-cells would make a great addition to my battery collection, if I had such a thing. Which I don't of course. No right-thinking person would be that interested in batteries.

I can live with the idea that the batteries can kill me and my loved ones, but my pets? I'm going to get rid of every Sony product, starting with my Sony Dreamcast, right now.

Ugh, Wasn't the problem not with the Sony batteries and more with Dell using rubbish components to connect the battery to the laptop. These batteries will run perfectly safely in anyother device.

rveo - no. Apple just issued a recall of Sony batteries as well. And Sony admitted the problem was caused by tiny bits of metal in the batteries or something.

While the batteries may be Sony's problems, Dell is equally at fault for buying and forcing Sony to sell cheaper batteries. This is why laptops has dropped in price and Dell offering 30 days warranty on their cheapest laptops.

Dell sucks. Apple sucks. Sony sucks.
