Gena's slide-out Sony remote control - PLUS VIDEO

Lucky old Gena has a remote control that, apparently, contains a secondary and smaller additional remote. A sort of escape pod, if you will. Or a deceased parasitic twin.

"Hi Idiot Toys. I was at my friend Gena's house the other day when I noticed this rather imposing specimen on her sofa-bed. It's for her Sony TV."

"I was excited; it is sizeable. However, this remote has a secret. The outer casing slides off to reveal a whole nother remote inside, with a veritable banquet of delicious buttons of all different flavours liberally spewed across its backside.

"Needless to say, on discovering this I was even more excited, perhaps too excited."

"Gena now thinks I have a fetish for remote controls and refuses to allow me further access to this particular example. Best wishes, Dan."

Exclusive video of remote in action. Not the clearest photostory we've featured - the remote really needs to be taken to a studio for proper examination.

My aunt used to have one of these. It was the coolest thing ever.

Why are the batteries blurred out...? Is Energizer planning to come after Idiot Toys?

Blurred out batteries and the use of non-word "nother"? 3/10

That video was far too confusing. It just looked like it fell apart at the end. More high res pics, please.

Preferrably under high-wattage halogens.

A mention of Gena and video, yet Gina is absent from both photos and said video.

Clearly this Gena is mythical. Probably made up to cover the bloke's remote infatuation.

WTF is happening on the telly in the forth pic?

Looks like two guys standing in his 'n' hers twin sink unit. In a sports arena. So they're possibly about to compete in the sink-restricted table tennis championships?

Excellent. Get the beers in

Actually I'm a bit worried about this one. On top of the TV is a blonde wig on a box of something. Tissues? And then there's a paper animal. Scary.

I think that the mythical 'Gena' might be himself with a blonde wig on and a mirror, hence 'her' none appearance in the pics / vids.

Yeah, why ARE the batteries blurred out?

As for nother, I love how the sentence starts off bad and then gets good later on:

"whole nother remote...veritable banquet of delicious buttons of all different flavours liberally spewed across its backside."

I think it was deliberate.

I had one of those remotes, too, for our old 32" telly. I can't remember what happened to the telly, I think we gave it to someone, along with the remote.

I'm pretty sure the remote will work with any other Sony TV. It's the best remote ever, as you can leave it on the naff baby side most of the time, keeping the hardcore buttons-a-plenty face relatively pristine for those less frequent picture/sound setup emergencies, and so random friends/family won't cock up your telly until they inevitably figure out how to flip it over...

I've got one of those. Still. Because my TV is old.

It's not long before I realised exactly why it was made like this. All the functions that only the adult male owner can be expected to understand are hidden, while the big chunky channel and volume buttons are for everyone else. That way you don't ever turn on the TV to find that the contrast is too high and stereo has turned into mono.

I think Bilal has already said this but his comment was too long for me to read in one go...

Gah! My girlfriend's flatmate has one of these - can't believe I wasted my time doing real work and not emailing photos of the thing to Idiot.

I reckon there's still an opportunity for a better-photographed remote, a remote given the treatment it deserves, with proper lighting and tits and stuff.

Bah, got pipped to the post on this one... I pictured this exact remote on Saturday night to send in but only just got back in the office to plug my damn phone in!

Pictures in this post in any case... including a semi-gadget with a face, not trying to goad you into visiting or anything... ;)

I also currently own this remote, or a slightly different model that only requires one battery. It's the RM-833 and features a bizarre switch (!) with the option of selecting VTR1,2,3 or MDP.
The woman's side is in very poor condition, scratched and the numbers missing or significantly worn.

I guess i could try and get some decent pics, but I am looking for a new job and if potential employers trace this back to me I'll never be able to get a new job

I also have the 1-battery version with the slide switch. I have to confess that after using it on the "man's side" for most of its life, I've been using the "lady's/child's side" since Digitiser stopped and there was no further need for hold, mix, reveal etc.

YES! The VTR1/2/3/MDP switch!

According to the instructions, MDP stands for Minidisc Player!
